One of the most unique hotels in America is the Wigwam Motel. A registered national monument, it was originally a part of a 7 wigwam chain villages. Now, only three remain. While the Wigwam Motel is only a Wigwam in terms of the facade – as the structure is made out of concrete, and houses modern amenities like a full bathroom as well as air-conditioning and cable television.
The history of the hotel dates back into the 1950′s, when Mr. Chester C. Lewis stumbled onto the idea of a Wigwam motel after seeing a similar set up in Kentucky. The quaint little motel gained popularity because of its proximity to Native American reservations like the Navajo, White Mountain Apache, Hopi and its nearness to Route 66.
